News Roundup: Kanye West apologies - is it too late? Lil' Mama tries to explain on stage antics with Jay-Z, Yale student found dead - stuffed in wall. 9.15.09 By - SHINE Kanye West apologizes 3rd time around. Is it too late? Kayne West posted a second apology on his blog Monday to follow his initial mea culpa for stealing Taylor Swift's spotlight Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards. Then Monday night he apologized a third time on the new "Jay Leno Show." The rapper wrote on Monday: "I feel like Ben Stiller in 'Meet the Parents' when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave... That was Taylor's moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry. Kanye's original apology is listed below. It was posted in all caps on Sunday night following the VMAs, but was taken down on Monday and replaced with the above "Meet the Parents" comparison. West wrote Sunday night: "I'm sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom [Andrea]. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would've said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she's in the bleachers! I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment! Beyonce's video was the best of this decade!!! I'm sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!!! I'm sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I'm a fan of real pop culture!!! (Read the full story) Lil' Mama jumps on stage, tries to explain herself
Lil' Mama says she meant no disrespect when she jumped on stage, uninvited, to join Jay-Z and Alicia Keys as their performance of "Empire State of Mind" wound to an end. "I did not mean any disrespect towards Jay-Z or Alicia Keys," the rapper/"America's Best Dance Crew" judge said in a statement released Monday. "I admire them and look up to them as role models. 'Empire State of Mind' had my emotions running high. In that moment I came up on stage to celebrate my two icons singing about NY." Jay-Z, who completely ignored Lil Mama's on-stage antics, told the rapper after the performance, "You gonna T-Pain me?" He was referring to this summer's Hot 97 (WQHT) Summer Jam show, when an uninvited T-Pain stood on stage as Jay-Z introduced and performed his latest track, "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)." New Haven policeofficer Joe Avery, the department's spokesman, said police believe no other student is involved in the death, but would not respond to questions about the alleged involvement of others. "We're not believing it's a random act, that's all I'm giving you right now," said Avery, who also denied reports Monday that police had a suspect in custody. Investigators appear to be closer to determining who killed 24-year-old Annie Le in a heavily secured building accessible only to students and university employees. Several news organizations reported that police were interviewing a possible suspect who failed a polygraph test and has defensive wounds on his body. Avery denied those reports. ABC News, WNBC-TV, The New Haven Register and the New Haven Independent cited anonymous sources in their reports. The Register and WNBC-TV also identify the possible suspect as a lab technician.
