RELATIONSHIPS. MIDDLE GROUND.

Radio Love
July/August 2009 - Ekandrea Tarver

There is something about summer that makes one feel sexy, confident, and fearless!  When the cool breeze sets in, a flirty side peeks out and whether you have a new boo or have been with your significant other for quite some time, summer is the time to take advantage of the beautiful weather and get close with your honey.

Although I often speak to my female audience, I'm directing this one to you my men out there!  I know sometimes it can be difficult coming up with ways to impress your ladies when you are on a tight budget, but it's a proven fact that inspiration comes from the most unlikely of places - and one way to get creative can come right from your local radio station.  I've taken the time to sit down and listen to the Quiet Storm and was delighted to discover some romantic (and cheap) ideas hidden deep in the soulful melodies of my favorite artists and I'm delivering them to you. So get your pen and pad, have youtube handy, and be ready to get creative:

"Wonderful" - Marques Houston
Inspiration Line: "Let's watch the stars get jealous of your shine."
What can be more romantic than letting your sweetie know she's more beautiful than the stars?  Prove it.  Pick the starriest night out and go to the beach, hold hands, and tell your girl how much she means to you.  Nothing makes a woman feel more special than her man stepping out of his comfort zone and opening his heart.  Bring a blanket and have a night-time picnic - and don't forget your radio!

"Customer" - Raheem Devaughn
Inspiration Line:  "Let me, let me, serve you up..."
Her favorite foods that is! Even if you are not the greatest cook, your woman will be impressed with your effort.  Take a Friday night (sacrifice the fellas), tie on an apron, and serve her with her favorite meal and dessert.  If you need help with preparation, there are some wonderful recipe sites online - no sneaking and calling for delivery!

"Chocolate High" - India Arie feat. Musiq Soulchild
Inspiration Line:  "If we make each other happy then we just can't lose"
I like this line because it speaks to both the grown up in the relationship. But it can also speak to the inner child in all of us. It's simply saying: "Have fun!" You'll be surprised how much fun you can have at the arcade or carnival.  Summer is the perfect time to go to the fair and have those great childhood snacks like cotton candy and funnel cakes.  Or go to Dave & Buster's and skip the food for the fun and games - just make sure the competition remains friendly.

"Find Myself in You" - Brian McKnight
Inspiration Line:  "I can't wait to wrap my arms around your body..."
For some reason, this song makes me want to dance!  You know those little jazz clubs you see in the movies where someone is reading poetry and there is soft, saxophone sounds coming from the stage...Take your girl out for a night of dancing and pull her close while you whisper sweet words in her ear...

"It's Whatever" - Aaliyah
Inspiration Line:  "Cause it's me and you, and it's you and me, and it's whatever..."
The greatest gift a man can give to a woman is his time.  As long as you let her know that she has all of your attention, she will not have problems doing whatever it is you can think of - sometimes it is the simple gestures that mean the most!
