Meharry Medical College: Full of Success By SHINE
 Meharry Medical College is the first medical school in the South for African Americans. Its mission is to "improve the health and health care of minority and underserved communities by offering excellent education and training programs in the health sciences." As a medical school for blacks Meharry focuses on providing opportunities to people of color and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Meharry also thrives in research programs strive to eliminate a variety of health disparities.
At Meharry, the college also strives to achieve national recognition for their work in the community, their educational programs, health services, and much more.
Meharry Medical College was founded in 1876 as the Medical Department of Central Tennessee College of Nashville.
